How healthy are your adrenals? Stress can affect have a negative effect on your immune system.

If you are like 80 percent of the population you lead a busy life. Likely, you are stressed, tired and too busy on a daily basis. Because of the demands of your life, you may eat on the run or skip meals and find that there is not enough time in the day to eat as healthy as you would like. You may find that you have little time to relax or to sit back and enjoy life. Face it, life is busy.

Experiencing stress is an unavoidable part of living. The continuous stress from the events of daily life can have a negative effect on your health. Cortisol, the stress hormone is secreted by the adrenal glands in response to stress. Both high and low levels of cortisol can have a negative impact on your immune system. Cortisol levels that remain high, suppress the immune system making you more susceptible to colds and flu. Cortisol is also known to speed up the rate that a virus replicates.

If you lead a busy life, you best defense against the Cold & Flu Season is having healthy adrenal glands. Adrenals need healthy levels of cholesterol as adrenal hormones are made from cholesterol. To support healthy cholesterol levels eat good fats like grass fed beef, free range eggs, fish and butter. Adrenals also need vitamins B & C. Vitamin B is found most abundantly in liver and can also be found in whole grains. Broccoli and green peppers have the highest levels of Vitamin C. It can also be found in greens, lemons, parsley, cabbage, kale and cauliflower.

Finally, limit your intake of both caffeine and sugar. Caffeine stimulates the adrenals to work harder. The adrenals regulate sugar balance so limiting the amount of sugar and carbohydrates that you eat will make the adrenals job easier.
