5 Small Steps while you Stay-at-Home to Improve your Health
Small changes can add up to a big difference. Choose one or several of these small steps to improve your health while you stay at home.
Remember the 21/90 Rule. Do something for 21 days and it becomes habit. Continue for 90 days and it becomes a lifestyle.
1. Think Positive
Research shows a healthy positive attitude helps build a healthier immune system and boosts overall health. Take these steps to improve your positive attitude and focus on gratitude
- Keep a gratitude journal
- Say 1 positive thing each day
- Use meditation and prayer
Prayer and meditation have been shown to result in psychological and biological changes that are actually or potentially associated with improved health.
"The more you do a practice like meditation or prayer, your brain physically gets thicker and it functionally works better," Dr. Andrew Newberg, a neurotheologist and director of research at Philadelphia's Myrna Byrd Center of Integrative Medicine.
2. Eat your vegetables
- Eat a vegetable with every meal
- Choose vegetables you like
- Try a new or uncommon vegetable
Lesser known vegetables include celeriac, sunchokes, jicama, kohlrabi, tomatillo, white asapargus, yucca, broccolini, daikon radish
3. Exercise Daily
- Walk
- Stretch
- Do exercise that doesn't seem like exercise:
Yard work or gardening, dancing, cleaning, interactive video games, wash your car
4. Get a good night's sleep
- Go to bed at the same time
- Use good sleep hygiene
- Try these poses if you can't fall asleep
5. Choose to take a Quantum Leap in your health
If you have time on your hands maybe there is a health goal that you have been thinking about or even working toward. This is a good time to focus on that goal. Perhaps you have 5 pounds to lose or maybe your New Year resolution was to start an exercise routine but you haven't had the time to do it. Take advantage of any extra time and focus on that goal.
